Lasers are now utilised for a variety of cosmetic treatments and a proven way to help reduce wrinkles, age spots, acne scars, and other blemishes. The technique directs short, concentrated pulsating beams of light at irregular skin, precisely removing skin layer by layer.

Not all laser treatments are able to treat all aspects of our skin; so it is important to understand which laser is best for each area of concern. Below is the range of laser skin treatments available at Brisbane Skin.

Light Laser Treatments

These are the ideal introduction to laser skin treatment.

We usually repeat light laser treatments multiple times to provide results similar to the moderate laser options, but without the downtime associated with the heavier treatments.

Clear + Brilliant

Which skin conditions does this treat?

Clear + Brilliant treatments are ideal for preventing and reducing the early signs of ageing skin.

The laser works by creating millions of microscopic treatment zones in the upper layers of the skin, replacing damaged skin with healthy tissue, for younger looking skin.

What are the top benefits?

  • Comfortable, fast, effective and affordable.
  • Prevent early signs of ageing and maintain younger looking skin.
  • Minimal downtime.
  • Suitable for all skin types.

Picosecond Laser

What is PicoSure Laser treatment?

PicoSure is the first and only aesthetic picosecond laser for the safe and effective removal of tattoos and benign pigmented lesions, as well as acne scars, wrinkles and skin revitalisation treatments.

Picosecond laser uses a high-powered laser to treat skin pigmentation. The energy pulse, which is one trillionth of a second, activates cell signalling and initiates an enhanced inflammatory healing response. This laser is able to remove pigmentation in about half the amount of treatments compared to the Q-Switch lasers.

Which skin conditions does this treat?

  • Acne Scarring
  • Pigmented lesions
  • Wrinkles
  • Tattoo removal

What are the top benefits?

The ultra-short pulse duration created by PicoSure creates an intense photomechanical impact resulting in greater disruption of the target condition and better clearance with fewer treatments.

This laser treatment also leads to increased collagen and elastin production without the thermal injury to surrounding skin (as seen in ablative laser treatments).

Moderate Laser Treatments

Our laser clinics offer several non-ablative laser treatments to treat specific dermatological concerns, including pigmentation, melasma, birthmarks, rosacea, sun damage and wrinkles.

Moderate laser treatments tend to take multiple sessions to decrease the appearance of the targeted area. The areas treated may be more obvious immediately after treatment and some mild swelling can occur, so recommended downtime will be advised.

Fraxel Fractionated Laser

What is Fraxel Laser treatment?

Fraxel Dual is by far the most requested fractional non-ablative laser procedures today.

Designed to provide the same results of the ablative devices without the need for extended down time, this treatment uses wavelengths of light that penetrate deeper into the skin creating heating. The heat generated causes remodelling of the collagen layer of the skin (dermis).

Like the ablative lasers, many of these devices use fractional technology where only a portion of the skin is treated at a given time to facilitate less downtime.

Which skin conditions does this treat?

Fraxel Non-Ablative Fractional Lasers treat very similar conditions to ablative laser treatments, such as;

  • Improved skin texture
  • Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Reduction of scar visibility (e.g. acne scarring and stretch marks)
  • Elimination of unwanted pigmentation
  • Tightening of facial and neck skin
  • Reduction of pore size
  • Clearance of precancerous sunspots (actinic keratosis)

What are the top benefits?

  • Minimal downtime, usually only a day or two.
  • Less pain; generally, only topical anaesthesia is required.
  • Suitable for both men and women, of all ages and skin colours.
  • Non-ablative (non-wounding); this treatment does not break the surface of the skin.
  • Treatment can vary in intensity, as required for your condition.
  • Accompanied by dermatologist-prescribed skincare regime.

Pulse-Dye Laser

What is Pulse-Dye Laser treatment?

Pulsed-Dye Lasers (or Vascular Lasers) are non-ablative lasers that use a specific wavelength of light to target unwanted blood vessels and redness (including red scars).

At Brisbane Skin, we use two industry leading vascular lasers: the Cynosure Cynergy and the Syneron Candela V-Beam. This enables us to use 3 different wavelengths (585nm, 595nm and 1064nm) in the form of Pulsed-Dye and Nd:YAG systems to provide optimal results.

Which skin conditions does this treat?

Vascular lasers create heating in only the targeted tissue leading to decreased appearance to small vessels on the face (telangiectasia), generalised redness (erythema), red scars (including hypertrophic), and the early stages of stretch marks (striae rubra).

Conditions Include:

    • Vascular lesions
    • Spider veins
    • Port wine stains (birthmarks)
    • Rosacea
    • Broken capillaries
    • Fine lines around eyes
    • Stretch marks

What are the top benefits?

  • Our suite of vascular lasers enables our dermatologists to precisely and selectively target the full range and size of vascular lesions, regardless of diameter and depth, and the ability to treat all skin types without adversely affecting the surrounding tissue.
  • Discomfort is generally low and swift; for most conditions, anaesthesia is not required.
  • The procedure is usually completed within 5-10 minutes.
  • There is usually no down-time required.
  • With a GP referral, Medicare rebates may apply to aspects of your vascular laser treatment.

Q-Switch Laser

What is Q-Switch Laser treatment?

The Q-Switch Laser Treatment uses a high-powered laser to treat skin pigmentation. The energy pulse, which is in billionths of a second, releases the pigment into the skin so it can be naturally reabsorbed and disposed of by the body.

Which skin conditions does this treat?

Q-Switch Laser treatment is the latest technology to clear and remove stubborn pigmentation including Melasma and Chloasma caused by hormones and malfunctioning in the melanin in the skin.

Virtually any type of unwanted skin blemish can be reduced with Q-Switch Laser Treatment, including;

    • Post Inflammatory Hyper-Pigmentation (PIH)
    • Ephelides
    • Becker’s Nevus
    • Melasma
    • Nevus Spilus
    • Nevomelanocytic Nevii (NMN)
    • Cafe-au-lait macules
    • Age Spots

Q-switch Laser Treatment also improves the quality and texture of the skin through the subtle heating of dermal layers through laser, which stimulates collagen regeneration whilst refining the skins texture.

What are the top benefits?

Q-Switch is not only becoming increasingly popular for its incredible results, but it is also a non-invasive, less risk adverse and no downtime treatment with less side effects compared to other laser options.

This Laser Treatment is right for most skin types and is generally considered safe.

Intensive Laser Treatments

Our laser suite is complete with several state-of-the-art laser treatments that provide you with outstanding results in removing fine lines, sun damage, scarring (including acne scars), pigmentation and skin cancer.

Our intensive laser treatments generally require local anaesthesia and can require a 2 to 3 week healing process, depending on depth, before the new skin has healed completely and final results are evident. We recommend undergoing these treatments during autumn or winter months, when daytime hours are shorter, and you are spending most of your time indoors.

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Laser

What is Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Laser treatment?

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Lasers are ablative lasers used to treat scars, warts, wrinkles and other deeper skin flaws. The laser aims an intense wavelength of light on damaged skin and vaporises the outer layers that have been affected by sun, age, and other factors.

Ablative laser treatment for skin rejuvenation is widely considered to be one of the most effective skin resurfacing techniques available today. At Brisbane Skin, we use both the Sciton Joule Erbium:YAG Laser, and the Syneron Candela CO2RE Carbon Dioxide Laser, often in combination, to give you the ideal treatment based on your particular skin concerns.

Which skin conditions does this treat?

CO2 laser resurfacing has been the treatment of choice for a range of skin issues, including;

  • Deep set wrinkles
  • Acne scars and other scarring
  • Warts
  • Birthmarks
  • Skin tags
  • Saggy skin (encourages collagen production for skin tightening)
  • Skin cancer
  • Corns on feet
  • Moles

What are the top benefits?

  • We use the Syneron-Candela CO2RE Carbon Dioxide Laser, one of the latest and most technically advanced CO2 lasers in the industry.
  • The removal of damaged skin allows the skin to replenish itself, increasing collagen production and creating a smoother skin texture.
  • Ablative laser treatment for skin rejuvenation is widely considered to be one of the most effective skin resurfacing techniques available today.

Erbium:YAG Laser

What is Erbium:YAG Laser treatment?

Erbium:YAG Lasers are ablative lasers designed to remove surface-level and moderately deep lines and wrinkles on the face, hands, neck, or chest.

Erbium laser resurfacing promotes collagen remodelling, making them popular options for treating;

  • Small to moderate wrinkles
  • Acne scars and other scarring
  • Saggy skin (encourages collagen production for skin tightening)
  • Sun damage
  • Age spots
  • Moles

What are the top benefits?

  • One of the most notable benefits of the Erbium laser treatment is the minimal damage of surrounding tissue, as well as less swelling, bruising and redness compared with CO2 laser resurfacing.
  • As a result, recovery time is faster and may be as short as a week.
  • For lighter-toned African American, Hispanic or Asian skin tones, Erbium lasers can sometimes be a good option, posing less risk for discolouration.
