Fraxel is the leading brand of fractional lasers for cosmetic rejuvenation. At our clinic in Brisbane, we use our laser to correct a wide range of skin problems and reduce visible signs of facial ageing.
Fraxel Laser Resurfacing Solves 7 Problems of Facial Ageing
Fraxel lasers have proven themselves repeatedly in treating patients with a wide range of skin complaints. In just one week, patients who visit Brisbane Skin for laser treatments will start noticing
- Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles
- Improved skin texture
- Tightening of facial and neck skin
- Reduction of pore size
- Elimination of unwanted pigmentation
- Clearance of precancerous sunspots (actinic keratosis)
- Improvement in scars (e.g. acne scarring and stretch marks)
Another aspect of fractional laser resurfacing that appeals to our patients is that the treatment can be varied in intensity. A light, low-intensity treatment is a weekend downtime treatment, that gives you light rejuvenation and a healthy glow. A heavier, more intense treatment may require 5-7 days recovery time, but may reduce a decade’s worth of fine lines, wrinkles and sun damage.
Facial rejuvenation treatments with Fraxel may provide dramatic results. However, to maintain these results, your dermatologist will prescribe a detailed regime of skin care which may include appropriate moisturisers and sunscreens, and active agents such as retinoids (vitamin A) and alpha hydroxy acids. You can expect improvements in skin quality and texture that will make your complexion appear younger and fresher for many years to come.

During your preliminary consultation with one of our doctors or specialist nurses, you will be asked questions that will help determine whether this skin rejuvenation treatment is the right fit for you. Fraxel may be suitable for you if you are trying to:
- Promote new collagen growth for more radiant skin
- Diminish visible signs of facial ageing including fine lines and wrinkles

We will ask for your complete medical history, learn about your lifestyle, and make every effort to understand the full picture of you as a person, as well as a patient. If you are not a suitable candidate for Fraxel, you will be given alternative treatment options by your dermatologist.
There is one more hallmark of a good candidate for Fraxel laser resurfacing: appropriate expectations. As part of your consultation, the dermatologists at Brisbane Skin will discuss what you hope to achieve. Being realistic about what this treatment can accomplish and understanding what cosmetic enhancement will do for you both physically and emotionally is an important factor in a successful outcome.
Fraxel Laser Skin Resurfacing Basics
Fraxel laser skin rejuvenation targets damaged skin with microscopic laser columns that penetrate beneath the skins surface. It has been in use for more than a decade throughout the world, and is a technique that is invaluable for treating both medical and cosmetic enhancement patients.
- Non-Ablative/Non-Wounding – The Fraxel restore dual laser does not break the surface of the skin.
The laser treats only a fraction of skin tissue at a time, which is how the treatment gets its name “fractional.” Fraxel skin resurfacing leaves the tissues around the treatment area intact, which promotes rapid healing. This stimulates your body’s own natural healing process, replacing the old and damaged cells with fresh, glowing, healthy skin.
Clients of Brisbane Skin have been delighted with their softer skin, brighter complexion, and even skin tone.
Brisbane Skin Walks You through Fraxel Laser Rejuvenation
When you arrive for your treatment, the first thing you will do is wash you face with a gentle cleanser (if you’re coming from home, you may want to skip putting on any make-up).
Patient comfort is a top priority at Brisbane Skin. Your doctor will apply a numbing cream to your skin generally an hour before your treatment.
Once you are comfortable and at-ease, your Fraxel laser facial rejuvenation treatment will begin. Your dermatologist or nurse will direct the handpiece to the targeted treatment areas, letting the laser work its restorative magic on your skin. A typical session lasts approximately 30 minutes, but can be shorter or longer depending on the size of the area being treated.
After fractional laser skin resurfacing, most patients tell us that they feel slightly sunburned, and your doctor will provide ice packs to help minimise those effects. If necessary, an over-the-counter pain reliever should take care of any lingering discomfort. You might be able to see a visible grid of microscopic dots marking the path of the laser beam as it treated your skin. This is normal and to be expected, and the dots will fade over time.
As part of your treatment, your doctor will review things you can do at home to promote good healing. Our patients are told to:
- Stay hydrated, drink plenty of fluids and avoid diuretics.
- Shield your skin from the sun as much as possible, and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.
- If you skin feels dry or itchy, use a non-comedogenic moisturiser. This is a moisturiser specifically designed not to clog your pores. We generally suggest QV intensive moisturiser for the first 24 hours, after which patients are switched to Obaji hydrate moisturiser.
Over the next few days, you will note flaking of your skin, based on the intensity of your treatment. They will wash/slough away on their own over the next 3-7 days, but if you pick at them, you will complicate the situation and run the risk of scarring your delicate skin.
